Educational Qualifications

Dr. Kiran Chandran completed his MBBS at KMC Manipal in 2015, followed by an MS in Ophthalmology at the same institution in 2019. He further advanced his expertise with a short-term Medical Retina fellowship at Giridhar Eye Institute in 2020, and a long-term Fellowship in Medical Retina from 2020 to 2021.

Specialisation

Dr. Kiran specializes in Ophthalmology, with a focus on Retina and Uvea. His primary interests include retinal and uveal diagnostics, where he excels in performing and interpreting various investigative procedures such as fundus fluorescein angiography, indocyanine green angiography, optical coherence tomography (OCT), OCT-Angiography, fundus autofluorescence, and ultrasound B-scan. He is also skilled in laser procedures (including pan-retinal photocoagulation, barrage laser, and focal laser) and administering intravitreal injections (anti-VEGF, steroids, and antibiotics). His special areas of interest encompass Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Polypoidal Choroidal Vasculopathy, Macular Telangiectasia Type-2, Diabetic Retinopathy, and Posterior Uveitis.

Work Experience

Dr. Kiran’s career has been primarily associated with Giridhar Eye Institute. He served as a Research Associate from June 2021 to March 2022, progressed to Associate Consultant in Retina from April 2022 to August 2024, and currently holds the position of Consultant in Retina since September 2024.

Achievements

Dr. Kiran’s accomplishments include securing a distinction in Ophthalmology during his MBBS and ranking among the top five candidates. He won the Sherlock Holmes Ophthalmology Quiz at KMC Manipal in 2018 and participated in various significant events, including the Teachers of Tomorrow program, the Asia Pacific VitreoRetina Society conference, and the European VitreoRetina Society conference in 2024. He has also been actively involved in the Smart India study on diabetic retinopathy and is a member of esteemed societies like the All India Ophthalmology Society (AIOS) and the VitreoRetina Society of India (VRSI). Additionally, Dr. Kiran is trained in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and advanced trauma courses. He is a Peer Reviewer for International Journals in Ophthalmology such as American Journal Of Ophthalmology Case Reports, BMC ophthalmology, International Ophthalmology.
