Educational Qualifications

Dr. Sandhya holds an MBBS, a Diploma in Ophthalmology (DO), and an MS in Ophthalmology. She is also a Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (MNAMS) and completed her fellowship at Giridhar Eye Institute.

Specialisation

She specializes in complex and refractive cataract surgery, with expertise in advanced techniques such as phacoemulsification and femto laser-assisted cataract surgery.

Work Experience

Dr. Sandhya joined Giridhar Eye Institute in 2004 as a fellow, subsequently becoming an associate consultant, and has continued her career at the institute for over two decades. She is currently a senior consultant in Cataract Services and brings extensive experience in handling both routine and challenging cataract surgeries.

Publications

Dr. Sandhya has contributed valuable research to peer-reviewed journals, including Ocular Immunology and Inflammation and Retinal Cases and Brief Reports. Her published work covers topics such as Varicella Zoster-related retinal vasculopathy, OCT-guided laser treatment for central serous chorioretinopathy, and Tamoxifen retinopathy.

Achievements

Among her numerous accolades, Dr. Sandhya has been awarded the Padmasree Dr. S. Tony Fernandez Video Award for her presentation on retained cortex management, as well as the Padmabhushan Dr. P. Siva Reddy Free Paper Award at the KSOS annual conference. Her work on phacoemulsification in myopic eyes was selected for the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons 2024 Video Library. Dr. Sandhya has also conducted instructional courses at major state and national conferences and serves as a reviewer for the Kerala Journal of Ophthalmology.
